Expansion of national highways

HYDERABAD: The Union Government will spend Rs 1,72,000 crore on expanding and strengthening of national highways in the next seven years.

Addressing a meeting after laying foundation stone for four-laning works of the Pune-Hyderabad section of NH-9 at Sangareddy Junction on Wednesday, Mr T.R. Baalu, Union Minister for Shipping, Road Transport and Highways, said the 31-km stretch was being widened at a cost of Rs 99 crore.

He assured that the remaining part of the four-laning of the NH-9 between Sangareddy-Zahirabad would be taken up in two phases by spending Rs 200 crore.

The Chief Minister, Dr Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy, appealed to the Centre to set up a Maritime University at Visakhapatnam and upgrade the Visakhapatnam Shipyard to international yards.
