Tata Daewoo signs pact with Pak firm

TATA Daewoo Commercial Vehicles Company Ltd (TDCV) has signed a technical assistance agreement with Afzal Motors (Pvt) Ltd of Pakistan for the assembly of TDCV vehicles in Pakistan, an official statement said on Monday.

Mr K.O. Chae, President, Tata Daewoo, and Mr Muhammad Ghufran, Chief Executive, Afzal Motors, signed the agreement in Karachi on December 12. The assembling of Tata Daewoo vehicles in Pakistan should commence by the last quarter of 2006 at Afzal Motors' new plant in Karachi. The plant has a designed capacity to produce 3,000 commercial vehicles per annum on a single shift basis.

"It will be the first Korean truck assembly project in Pakistan,'' it said.

Tata Daewoo is a 100 per cent subsidiary of Tata Motors. Its vehicles are sold in almost 50 countries.
