New Delhi , Dec. 16

THE Dalmia Centre for Research and Development (DCRD) has entered into a collaborative arrangement with Kiadis of Netherlands, a drug discovery company focused on developing high-value active compounds for both pharmaceutical and nutraceutical industries using proprietary screening technology.

Through this collaboration, plants would be screened for potential high-value active compounds for the treatment of asthma and diabetes. DCRD has been formulating plant-based drugs and carrying out clinical trials for generating evidence for several diseases. It has several promising plant-based formulations.

In a statement, Mr Sanjay Dalmia, Chairman, said, "We are aware that the inspiration of modern drugs will have to be from plant origin, particularly from India because of the biodiversity and we have had a headstart almost a decade ago with our evidence-based approach. Our research centre was among the pioneers in this country to carry out clinical trials with ethics committee clearances and patient consent on the lines of modern requirements."

The group is exploring the takeover of a potential Contract Research Organization for carrying out clinical trials in India for drug companies at competitive costs.
