New Delhi , Dec 13

HCL Technologies today entered into a multi-million dollar agreement with a Japanese system integrator, EXA Corporation, under which HCL would provide offshore-based IT solutions and system integration services to EXA's blue-chip customers in Japan.

"This partnership would enable EXA to expand its client base and acquire a leadership position in the lucrative but highly competitive $100-billion systems integration market in Japan, leveraging HCL's offering in application consulting services. The business targeted through this partnership is $100 million," a company release said.

EXA is a 51:49 joint venture between IBM Japan and JFE Steel, the second largest steel manufacturer in Japan.

It has a customer base in the manufacturing, engineering, finance, card, and public sectors.

Commenting on the alliance, Mr Masahiro Ikeda, President, EXA, said: "The new venture will play a key role in renovating our processes by sharing expertise with an IT giant like HCL and providing our customers with cost-effective end-to-end IT solutions."

HCL will implement large-scale projects for migration/conversion and re-engineering of legacy applications for EXA's customers.

The other areas of engagement will include product development and maintenance for manufacturing IT solutions and enterprise consulting services in Oracle EBS. These projects will be executed out of HCL's centres in Noida and Chennai.
