Telecommunications Tata Indicom adds 68,000 mobile customers in Karnataka Our Bureau
Bangalore , Dec. 12 TATA Indicom added 68,000 mobile customers in the State in November and hopes to obtain the same number of subscribers by end of this year. Speaking to Business Line, Mr Prabhat Pani, the Chief Operating Officer, Tata Tele Services, Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh, said, "We expect to gain a similar number by December end." The company saw an addition of 16,439 and 35,308 mobile subscribers in Karnataka in September and October respectively. The increase in numbers is due to the new scheme called `Non Stop Mobile'. The company recently invested around Rs 3 crore to Rs 4 crore in this scheme. This innovative plan allows subscribers to receive free incoming calls for a period of two years, without a fixed monthly commitment. "These new schemes are governed by competitive factors, there is no calendar brought out for them," said Mr Pani. He was unable to put a figure to the ARPU (average revenue per user) of Tata Indicom. This record number of additions is similar to its "topping the country chart" in November. It added one million gross customers across 20 circles. Tata Indicom's net subscriber additions in November 2005 stood at nearly 8.7 lakh. While announcing the new scheme in mid-October, the mobile operator announced a cumulative customer base of five lakh customers in Karnataka. It is now six lakhs. The company's incremental market share in Karnataka is 12 per cent per month.
