Outsourcing Industry & Economy - Employment BPO job registry to be released soon Our Bureau
Kolkata , Dec 8 THE National Employment Registry currently prepared by Nasscom and National Securities Depository Ltd (NSDL) will be released within three months. To begin with it will contain employment data on the business process outsourcing (BPO) industry. Other sectors in the IT industry would be covered later, according to Mr Kiran Karnik, President of Nasscom. Addressing a news conference here on Thursday, on the sidelines of Infocom 2005 Conference & Exhibition organised jointly by Businessworld and Nasscom, Mr Karnik said the fee structure for companies seeking access to the registry database would be decided later. The revenue would be shared by Nasscom and NSDL. On Wednesday, Nasscom representatives met the West Bengal Chief Minister, Mr Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee, and requested the creation of a special IT education zone in the State. Nasscom also felt that the State Government should create social infrastructure in upcoming IT hubs such as the Rajarhat Township. On the issue of trade unions in the IT industry, Mr Karnik said that no management can legally block the formation of employees' unions. However, Nasscom felt that in the case of BPOs and IT units, employers and employees can well settle contentious issues across the table without any third-party intervention.
