Dual citizenship

The first Person of Indian Origin (PIO) card will be handed over by the Prime Minister, Dr Manmohan Singh, at the launch of the Overseas Citizen Scheme during the inaugural session of the Pravasi Bharatiya Diwas, in the second week of January.

With the simultaneous opening of the Universal Electronic Remittance Gateway, dual citizenship will be extremely useful for non-resident Indians who will now be able to transfer funds to their family members.

This measure will make for a sustainable relationship with overseas Indians for the economic, social and cultural development of India.
