Coimbatore , Nov. 28

HCL Infosystems, the marketing partner for Toshiba mobile computing systems, plans to double the exclusive laptop sales outlets in the country from 75 to 150 by March 2006.

Mr L. Ramprasad, Country Head (Sales and Marketing), Toshiba Mobile Computing, said here that the company was strengthening its network to enable customers `touch-and-feel' the product before taking the plunge.

`The rising demand for laptops has compelled us to open such exclusive showrooms. We have opened 75 shops in the last eight months.'

According to him, laptops have not made a significant dent yet, but the market was growing at 150 per cent year-on-year.

`The laptop market is just about 4 per cent in the PC industry in India compared to 25 per cent in the US. But it is expected to grow in the coming years as these become more affordable,' he said.

To a query on the target, he said they were not in the number game, but more intent on providing value for money. `Toshiba laptops come in 28 different models. Close to 35 per cent of the market is for the entry-level model,' he added.
