Software Info-Tech - Human Resources Satyam on leadership training drive Our Bureau

Hyderabad , Nov. 28 SATYAM Computer Services Ltd has charted out plans to institutionalise training of leaders and expects to cover about 1,500 (about 5 per cent) of the company's 25,000 employees initially through what it calls Satyam School of Leadership. The company has inducted Mr Ed S.Cohen, who is credited to have launched Booz Allen's Centre for Performance Excellence, to lead the way for this project. The Chairman of Satyam Computer, Mr B. Ramalinga Raju, said, "Satyam has set for itself the task of growing leaders faster than the competition as its primary objective. To remain competitive, we need to strengthen and spread this vision internally." "This initiative would initially cover about 5 per cent of the company associates and expand to 10 per cent within next few years," Mr Raju said. The company describes this as a Corporate University and seeks to build on what they refer to as the Full Life Cycle Leadership model wherein entrepreneurial leadership opportunities have been provided in defined areas of strategic relationships with customers and alliances, service offerings, projects and processes. Speaking about the project close to his heart, Mr Raju said "Satyam has become a $1-billion IT and business solutions provider. As we go on to achieve new levels in the range of service offerings and compete globally, it is no longer an issue of winning bid deals, but also being one step ahead of others in this rapidly changing technology environment." "By the middle of next year, Satyam plans to build a campus at Madhapur near Hitec City to host this new centre. It does not mean that we are starting this all now suddenly. The Satyam Learning Centre, created a few years ago, has played a big role in development of leaders within the company. This effort would take it to the next level," Mr Raju explained. Mr Ed S. Cohen, designated Senior Vice-President, Leadership Development, said, "soon the nature of approach and the strategy would be worked out. This would be a combination of classroom and virtual delivery process and possibly include some clients as well." The Director and Vice-President, Global Human Resources, Satyam, Mr A.S. Murthy, said that when a company is recruiting about 7,500 people in one year across multiple locations and addressing geographies spread across, this calls for new breed of professionals who are able to provide the right leadership. Referring to the induction of senior members to meet the expansion plans, Mr Murthy said, "we have inducted about 60 people for our leadership initiative under the broadband approach."
