Hitachi looking for tie-ups to expand distribution network

New Delhi , Nov. 24

HITACHI Home and Electronics Asia, part of the Japanese consumer electronics giant Hitachi Group, on Thursday said it was looking for tie-ups with Indian companies for distributing its products.

"At present, talks are on with a few companies for putting in place a distribution network and we should be able to finalise by early next year," said the Hitachi Home and Electronics Asia (HHEA) Country Head, Mr Tarun Jain, at a press conference announcing the launch of the new range of plasma televisions.

The company, which started its distribution in India two years ago, sees huge potential in the growing plasma television market and is looking to expand its distribution network here, he added.

"By the end of 2006, we are aiming to have 300 outlets from the present 60. Also we will increase exclusive Hitachi galleries to 12 from the present two," he said.

Mr Jain said the demand for flat panel television in India is expected to multiply and touch 42,000 sets in 2006 and double it to 84,000 sets by 2007. "As of now, we have about 12 per cent market share in the plasma television market, but going forward we expect it to be 15-20 per cent,'' he said.

On having a larger presence in India, Mr Jain said the company would prefer to study the market before committing to any investments to set up operations. The company's latest range of ALiS range of televisions is priced between Rs 1.8 lakh and Rs 4.5 lakh.
