Shipping Adviser soon to coordinate ports' business plans Our Bureau
Chennai , Nov. 22 THE Shipping Ministry will appoint an adviser to coordinate business plans being developed by consultants for each of the 12 major ports in the country. The candidate will act as an adviser to the Department of Shipping to ensure that the plans developed by each port address all elements in the consultant's scope of work, the planning process employed in each port is consistent and the plans are completed on schedule, says information available on the Ministry's Web site. It may be recalled that the Ministry has mandated each of the ports to develop a plan, which includes a long-term vision for the port that builds on its core strength and establish the goals to be achieved over the next seven years. The plan should also describe the strategy to be followed to achieve the goals set, provide a detailed outlay of action to implement the strategy and identify sources of financing for all proposed investments. Each major port is in the process of engaging an international consultant to assist in developing the plan, which can be implemented without any government financial support. The plan will be similar to a typical corporate business plan prepared by a modern commercial corporation, according to the Web site.
