Coast Guard ship arrives at Mangalore

INDIAN Coast Guard Ship Kasturba Gandhi — the fifth Coast Guard ship to be based at the Coast Guard District Headquarters No. 3 in New Mangalore — arrived here recently.

A Coast Guard press release said here on Tuesday that the ship, which was built at Goa Shipyard Ltd, was commissioned in Goa on October 28.

The ship has an overall length of 50.4 metres and draws 265 tonnes.

The release said that Commandant Bhisham Sharma commands the ship. The complement of the ship includes five officers and 35 enrolled personnel.

The ship will enhance the capabilities of the Coast Guard District Headquarters No. 3 in performing its charter of duties in the exclusive economic zone and along the coast of Karnataka, the release added.
