Intuit to set up product development centre in India

V. Rishi Kumar

Intuit sees growth opportunities in the consumer and small business markets. The centre will enable Intuit to tap the large talent pool in India.

Hyderabad , Nov. 13

INTUIT Inc, a technology company, plans to set up its India product development centre and is in the process of launching an engineering facility in Bangalore.

The Director of Product Development, Intuit, Mr Ranga Shetty, said, "Intuit is committed to setting up the India product development centre and the engineering facility will house 90 engineers. Our current forecast is to reach about 300 people in 4-5 years. As Intuit grows, we expect to revise this forecast upward."

The company plans to tie up with IT-related companies, including consultants, vendors and third-party developers.

Intuit provides an opportunity for engineers to work with the company and be part of a core team whose products touch the lives of some of our 30-million customers, Mr Shetty said.

"With PC-based application playing a vital role in daily transactions, there is a focus on easy-to-use software with simple user interfaces. Recognising this need, Intuit, a creator of three financial software brands in the US, has extended their development activities to the Indian engineering centre." Intuit sees growth opportunities in the consumer and small business markets.

The centre will enable Intuit to tap the large talent pool in India. This would help develop its flagship product `QuickBooks' and payroll solutions for small business.

"Customer-driven innovation is a systematic way to solve customer problems. More than 10 years ago, we recognised that most small firms had difficulties in debit and credit accounting. Intuit's developed QuickBooks to address this need.

Thus, Intuit transformed the way small businesses were run in the US with products such as Quicken, QuickBooks and TurboTax," he said. Referring to the Intuit Net Promoter concept, Mr Shetty said that this helps a company deliver a better user experience for its customers.

"Companies that measure their own success based on user experience ratings can use Net Promoter as a rating provider and an analytical tool.

It is clear that companies who place high importance on consumer user experience are more successful than others."
