CAC implementation: TRAI calls for review of preparedness

New Delhi , Nov. 12

THE Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has written to all service providers to review the state of readiness for implementing carrier access code (CAC) or carrier pre-selection. CAC or carrier pre-selection regime would enable subscribers to select their long distance carrier while making any phone calls.

Incidentally, the Communications Minister, Mr Dayanidhi Maran, had said, "We want more operators to come in. If consumers need more choice in carrier selection, we have to make sure that the market is ready."

He said this while announcing measures to increase competition in the long distance segment.

"To review the current status on readiness of implementation of CAC/ Carrier pre-selection and to decide further necessary course of action, TRAI has issued letter to all service providers regarding status of implementation of carrier selection in their respective networks," it stated.
