No plan to link gas cylinder with ration cards: AP Govt

Hyderabad , Nov 11

THE Andhra Pradesh Government has made it clear that it will not link the delivery of gas cylinders (and connections) with ration cards.

Speaking to newspersons on Friday, Mr N. Raghuveera Reddy, Minister for Civil Supplies and Agriculture, said that there was no proposal to link these two issues and appealed to people not to get panicky.

Referring to reports appeared in a section of press that the Government might link gas delivery and ration cards in order to tide over the shortage of gas supply, the Minister admitted that there was a suggestion from officials in this regard.

"But it was only a suggestion and we haven't taken a decision," he added.

There was widespread uproar in the last two days in the State after the reports appeared. The Chief Minister, Dr Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy, had to clarify that the Government had no such plans.

The Minister for Civil Supplies put on notice those using domestic gas cylinders for commercial purposes.

The Government has formed special vigilance teams in all the districts to keep tabs on the abuse of domestic cylinders.
