Food processors, retailers to explore supply opportunities at Foodpro

LARGE retailers and food processors will be in Chennai exploring opportunities to tie up with suppliers. Some of them are: Metro AG of Germany, Café Coffee Day and Perfetti Van Melle.

They will be here at the Foodpro 2005 being inaugurated on Saturday.

According to a press release from the Confederation of Indian Industry, the organisers of Foodpro, Metro AG, Germany, the fourth largest food retailer, and Metro Group Buying, Hong Kong, will meet members of food processing industry. They plan to source a range of food products including processed foods, marine foods and fresh and frozen produce.

Café Coffee Day and Perfetti Van Melle will present their sourcing and procurement plans at Foodpro. These events will be part of an exclusive buyer-seller meet for companies in the food sector.

Also, over 20 companies from Australia, the partner country, are participating and the Australian food industry will also be looking for business opportunities.

Foodpro 2005 is a biennial conference on food processing and food technology trade organised by the Confederation of Indian Industry. The event during November 12-15 includes a two-day conference and a four-day exhibition and will be inaugurated by the Tamil Nadu Governor, Mr Surjit Singh Barnala.

The Union Minister of State for Food Processing Industries, Mr Subodh Kant Sahai, will inaugurate the two-day conference "From the Farm Gate to the Dinner Plate - The way forward for India's food business," on November 14.

A report entitled "India's changing dinner plate: foods and beverages - challenges and opportunities in the Indian market," a CII-AC Nielsen-ORG-MARG Report would also be released on the occasion, the release said.

Over 200 companies will participate and 3,000 business visitors are expected at the exhibition. Also, over 30,000 trade visitors including manufacturers, farmers, traders, wholesalers, dairy processors and retailers were expected visit, the release said.
