Chennai , Nov. 10 THE Madras High Court has directed the Ranipet unit of Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd to provide jobs immediately to eight persons, as land belonging to their families were acquired by the public sector undertaking for starting the boiler auxiliaries plant. Responding to a writ petition filed by Mr V. Sasikumar and others, residents of Walajah taluk in Vellore district of Tamil Nadu, praying for granting them jobs for their livelihood, Mr Justice A. Kulasekaran directed the authorities of the unit "to give continuous employment for 45 days, with 3 days break in service," pending disposal of the petition. The petitioners, whose families owned land in several villages in Walajah taluk, submitted that these land were acquired by BHEL in 1979-80 on the promise that they or the members of their families would be given jobs as compensation for the acquisition. The Tamil Nadu Government had passed an order in January, 1981 announcing that at least one member of each displaced family would be provided job in the unit.
