Business development body for Bengal mooted

Kolkata , Nov. 10

MR Peter Clasen, the head of a 15-member business delegation on food processing from Germany, currently visiting India, has recommended that West Bengal should set up a business development council similar to that of Hong Kong Development Council for expediting the process of promoting the state's "hidden" business potential.

In an interactive session with the State Chief Minister, Mr Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee, the members of the delegation said that German companies were keen to develop trade relations with the state. They gave full credit to the Chief Minister for the improved industrial climate in the State.

Mr. Clasen said that the first-ever business delegation in the State from Germany would go back with a commitment to promote trade between West Bengal and Germany.

Addressing the members of Bengal National Chamber of Commerce & Industry (BNCC), Mr Clasen said that members of the delegation were asked by the Chief Minister to take up deep sea fishing project in the State.

Responding to his request, Mr Heinrich Q.E.Birr, Vice-President of the Metro Group, agreed to outsource fish from the state for export purposes in European countries. This apart, the group would help West Bengal bridge the gap in retail and wholesale trade within the State.

Mr Birr said that group was also keen to export mango from the state provided mango producers follow international standards.
