FREESCALE Semiconductor, a US-based designer and manufacturer of embedded semiconductors, has launched an integrated chip (IC) that has ultra-low power consumption.

With the MPC18730, it is extending its power management IC line. This IC has been designed for portable audio and video applications.

The battery life is extended by a low minimum operating voltage of 0.9V, said a release issued by the company. This makes the MPC18730 ideal for battery-powered systems. "With a minimum operating voltage of 0.9V, it's possible to operate a portable device with a just one battery, reducing the size of the device or extending the use," said Mr Demetre Kondylis, GM, Freescale's Sensors & Analog Products Division.
