Maruti to increase Swift production

Our Bureau

New Delhi , Oct. 30

MARUTI Udyog Ltd has announced that it would increase production of its latest model, Maruti Suzuki Swift by 30 per cent to bring down waiting time.

The company, which has so far been producing at the rate of 5000 Swifts per month, will step it up to 6500 Swifts from November.

Maruti has sold over 27,000 units of Swift since its launch five months ago. According to a Maruti release, "following the response to the model, the company had to go in for expansion of capacity. The process of expanding capacity, both within the Maruti factory and at the facilities of the suppliers, has now been completed."

A Maruti spokesperson said that, "Although there is still a backlog of pending bookings, with this expansion in capacity, we would be able to enhance availability and reduce the waiting time for the Swift."
