Bangalore , Oct. 26 GAME maker Electronic Arts, known among gamers for the car racing game Need For Speed, has launched its 2006 gaming collection at BangaloreIT.in. Electronic Arts (EA), in alliance with Game Masti, has released 11 new games, available from Rs 1,299 onwards. Game Masti is the brand name for Mumbai-based Gayatri Impex, EA's distributor in India. Game Masti retails EA products for Sony's Playstation 2 and Microsoft's Xbox throughout India. Among the 11 games is FIFA Soccer 2006, with enhancements such as a FIFA lounge and online play. Another new feature is `attacking game play', which allows one to use shielding and other tactics. "This game is the second most popular sports game in India, following EA Sports Cricket 2005," said Mr Sanjay Wadhwa of Gayatri Impex. Other games being released are Medal of Honour European Assault, Battlefield 2 and Burnout Revenge. Hollywood-based games such as Harry Potter, Batman Begins and Lord Of The Rings will also be released soon. Speaking about sales in India, Mr Wadhwa agreed that console gaming had not taken off. Sony's Play Station 2 (PS2) console saw bleak sales, with only 400 units sold over the last one-and-a-half years. "With Diwali around the corner, we hope to sell more PC games. Console games also have a potential to sell more," said Mr Sushil Kothari of Mitesh Softek, whose gaming stall saw over 200 registrations on the first day of the IT event. "We are expecting one lakh participants. Most are students hard-core gamers are usually between ages 17 and 21, while casual gamers are older. We are looking at attracting the business class into gaming with this stall for casual gaming," he added. The PSP, Play Station Portable, released only a month ago, is available at the stall for Rs 19,990. Only 20 units have been sold, and the company expects to sell another 20.
