Global biz schools to take part in XLRI annual fest in Kolkata

Our Bureau

Kolkata , Oct. 24

ENSEMBLE, the annual management fest organised by XLRI Jamshedpur, is set to reach out to foreign business schools this year.

The forthcoming event, which will feature leading Indian business schools and top companies, will receive some participation from overseas.

The driving theme for Ensemble is `Inverting the Pyramid'— building sustainable profitable business models for the mass markets. The participants are expected to present themselves in a wide array of games, case studies and paper writing contests. The contests will cover basic business functions such as marketing, finance, HR, systems and operations.

For Ensemble, the top 20 business schools are invited and about 125 outside participants come down to campus to take part in the final rounds or to attend seminars, an XLRI press release has stated.

"Businesses all over the country are waking up to opportunities in the mass markets that have not received attention in the past. Recent trends in Indian markets indicate a distinct shift towards the Bottom of the Pyramid", the release has mentioned, adding that the theme will serve as the common thread for case-analyses, simulations and the like.

Companies such as ITC, Reliance Infocomm, HLL, Tata Steel and Air Deccan will partner XLRI this year. The flagship game has been named ITC-Pharaohs - which will be positioned at testing teams on a slew of skills. The prize money is pegged at Rs 1 lakh. Incidentally, the total prize money for the events adds up to roughly Rs 5.5 lakh.

Five finalist teams in the marketing game will have the opportunity to interact with a creative team from Ogilvy & Mather at their offices in Delhi and other metros.
