New Delhi, Sept. 9

SAMSUNG on Friday said it would invest $12.5 million this year in its research and development (R&D) facility at Noida, which focuses on customising consumer durable products for the Indian market.

"So far, Samsung has invested $15 million in this facility. We will invest $12.5 million in the R&D centre in the current year. A part of this investment has already been made," Mr Zutshi said adding that the facility currently employed 225 people.

He said Samsung India was targeting an overall turnover of Rs 6,500 crore this year, compared to Rs 4,950 crore notched in 2004. The company's business includes consumer durables (electronics and appliances), IT and handheld phones.

"Of this, 30 to 31 per cent came from our IT division, around 53 per cent from consumer electronics and home appliances, while the balance was contributed by the telecom business," he added.
