Fuel cost hike: Cement prices may go up marginally

Our Bureau

Mumbai , Sept. 6

THE cement industry believes the impact of the rise of transportation fuel costs on the industry is minimal, but some officials warned that it would depend on several other factors which will only present themselves as they actually unfold.

According to a senior official from Gujarat Ambuja Cements Ltd, it could lead to a price increase of around Re 1 per bag (of 50 kg).

Such a rise is considered negligible as the price per bag in the western region is around Rs 155.

Transportation costs to the cement industry vary widely and depend on the location of the cement plant, its distance from suppliers and customers.

More than this, one does not know to what extent transportation companies may hike their freight charges.
