MUMBAI: Tata Consultancy Services Ltd has expanded its board of directors with the appointment of drug-major GlaxoSmithKline's (GSK) Mr V. Thyagarajan as an independent director.

The board will now comprise five members — the Chairman, Mr Ratan Tata; the Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director, Mr S. Ramadorai; and three independent directors - Mr Aman Mehta, Mr Naresh Chandra and Mr V. Thyagarajan.

Mr Thyagarajan is at present responsible for GSK's operations in the Asia-Pacific region and is also the Vice-Chairman of GSK in India.

"As TCS ramps up its operations across the globe, the guidance and expertise of Mr Thyagarajan, who has guided the business strategy of one of the largest pharmaceutical companies in the region, will be invaluable," Mr Ramadorai said in a statement issued on Monday.
