Minor fire at RCF plant

Mumbai , Aug. 31

A MINOR accident was reported at the fertiliser plant of Rashtriya Chemicals & Fertilizer (RCF) Ltd at Mumbai at 12.30 p.m. on Wednesday. The accident resulted in burning of fertiliser. No casualties or injuries were reported.

The fire was brought under control in 30 minutes by the RCF fire fighting staff. The fire brigade and the disaster management team of the Municipal Corporation of Greater Mumbai were also present at the site.

Speaking to Business Line, the RCF spokesperson, Mr P.T. Desai, said abandoned equipment was being shifted from the fertiliser plant by welding and cutting process. The sparks let to burning of `Sufla fertilizer' located near equipment, which led to fumes in the complex. The fumes were non-toxic in nature. There was no gas leak of any kind. "We advised all the local residents not to panic. Due to the weather, the fumes were not dispersed resulting in brief reduction of the visibility in the complex," Mr Desai said.
