Overseas Investments Ranbaxy commissions new Malaysia facility Our Bureau
New Delhi , Aug 2 RANBAXY Malaysia Sdn. Bhd (RMSB), a subsidiary of Ranbaxy Laboratories Ltd, has commissioned its new manufacturing facility in Sungai Petani, Kedah, Malaysia. This unit is expected to enhance the company's manufacturing capabilities in Malaysia. The plant will meet the growing demand for generic and branded medicines in the local markets and will also position RMSB as a significant supplier of formulations for the ASEAN region. In a company statement, Dr Brian W. Tempest, CEO, Ranbaxy, said that the new facility will help to expand and consolidate its presence in the region. RMSB will also be using the facility to manufacture products for supply to other Ranbaxy subsidiaries and operations within the ASEAN region. Ranbaxy had entered Malaysia in 1983 through a joint venture. In 1987, it set up a dosage forms manufacturing unit in Sungai Petani,Kedah, Malaysia, to cater to the growing needs of the local market as well as the market in Singapore. Subsequently, in October 2002 RMSB became a wholly owned subsidiary of RLL, India. RMSB has a range of products as well as marketing collaborations with Schwarz Pharma (Germany), Desitin (Germany), Pharmascience (Canada), Almirall Prodesfarma (Spain), to promote their brands in Malaysia and Singapore. It is also the only facility in Malaysia that manufactures HIV/ARV medicines.
