Bandh in Tirupur tomorrow on dyeing units issue

AN all-political party and united trade unions meeting held at Tirupur today decided to observe a 24-hour `bandh' in Tirupur on Tuesday seeking Centre and State Government attention to save the dyeing and bleaching industry.
The meeting held under the leadership of the CPM leader, Mr Govindasamy, and attended by all the political parties and their trade union affiliates, barring the BJP and the ruling AIADMK, had expressed concern over the closure of the 500-odd dyeing and bleaching units in Tirupur ordered by the Madras High Court.
The meeting which criticised the Tamil Nadu Government for remaining indifferent to the plight of the dyeing and bleaching industry, which provided employment to over three lakh people in the hosiery town, had also urged the Centre to come to the aid of the industry by releasing the 25 per cent of the cost of the funds needed for setting up the effluent treatment system as `grant' and save the workers affected by the Court's order.
The all-party meet said the 24-hour bandh would be observed in Tirupur and the surrounding areas housing the dyeing and bleaching units.
