TRAI tells mobile cos to honour credit limit for post-paid users

New Delhi , June 27

THE Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) today directed operators to deploy a transparent mechanism in the matter of credit limit for post-paid subscribers.

The telecom regulator has told the operators that it should not disconnect a subscriber until and unless the usage exceeded the fixed credit limit.

"Services to the subscriber shall not be disrupted until and unless the credit limit fixed for a subscriber has exceeded despite adequate intimation about the same," TRAI said in a direction to the service providers.

When the usage and other applicable charges reach 80 per cent of the limit, the operators will have to intimate the subscriber about the consequences of his usage exceeding the credit limit, including the possibility of disconnection. The authority has directed the service providers to file a compliance report in this regard within 15 days. The regulator said that the credit limit set for a post-paid subscriber must be intimated to him in advance. To the new subscribers it should be informed within seven days of activation of the service.
