YSR asks officials to finalise irrigation proposals soon

Our Bureau

HYDERABAD: The Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister, Dr Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy, has directed irrigation officials to finalise proposals for the restoration of minor irrigation and Panchayat Raj water sources by September.

At a review meeting, he asked the officials to ground the finalised proposals by December 2005 and complete them by July 2006.

Calling for a comprehensive restoration of water sources, Dr Reddy said the officials should adopt a basin-wise approach to ensure better use of the sources, a Government release said.

He wanted the officials to focus on Ranga Reddy, Medak, Chittoor, Kurnool, uplands of Nellore and Prakasam districts, in addition to the two districts of Anantapur and Mahboobnagar.
