Mumbai , May 26

BRITANNIA Industries Ltd has ended the 2004-05 fiscal with a 25 per cent increase in profit after tax at Rs 148.8 crore against Rs 118.8 crore in the earlier year.

Sales for the year stood at Rs 1,615.4 crore against Rs 1,470.5 crore in the previous year. The company said profits for the March quarter were impacted by a lower one-time profit on sale of long-term investments, compared with the year-ago period and a higher charge for exceptional items this year. But the operating margin for the quarter improved by 9 per cent.

"These results were delivered in an environment of steep increases in commodity and fuel prices, which were largely offset by cost efficient supply chain initiatives," the company said in a news release.

The company added several new products to its portfolio like Treat - Duet, Tiger Orange Cream and Good Day Choconut.
