Mumbai, May 20

TATA Steel hopes to acquire a coal-mining block in Australia some time this year, Mr Muthuraman said.

The company's need for imported coal for blending was estimated at seven million tonnes by 2010-2011.

Following the acquisition of NatSteel, efforts were being made to improve its operational efficiency and upgrade product mix.

Billet supplies to NatSteel should start in two years' time.
