Mangalore , May 20

AS part of its business promotion drive, the New Mangalore Port Trust (NMPT) - in association with the Mysore Chamber of Commerce and Industry — held a trade meet at Mysore recently.

An NMPT release said here on Thursday that the meet dealt with the latest developments in the port to the importers and exporters of the region. Exporters of commodities such as agarbati, coffee, plywood, eggs, solar lamps and granite attended the meeting. Issues hampering the movement of cargo through the port were also discussed.

The NMPT Chairman, Mr P. Tamilvanan, requested importers and exporters of the region to make use of the advantageous position of the port for moving cargo.

The port has been registering highest growth rate among major ports of the country for the past three years. It attained the sixth position in terms of traffic throughput during the last fiscal compared to the eighth position in the previous fiscal, he said.

Mr H.N. Ramathirtha, President of Mysore Chamber of Commerce and Industry, presided over the meeting.
