Singareni staff strike begins

HYDERABAD: Only 28 per cent of the 50,000 Singareni Collieries employees reported to duty in the first shift on the first day of the three-day token strike that began on Monday.

A company spokesman told Business Line that attendance in Khammam district was at 55 per cent and in Karimnagar at 33 per cent. "In the remaining areas like Adilabad, 10-15 per cent attendance was reported in the first shift," he said.

He said the company could meet 75 per cent of its target.

Meanwhile, Mr B. Bikshamaiah, President of Singareni Collieries Employees Union (affiliated to CITU), said that the strike was successful on the first day. — Our Bureau
