SriLankan Cargo to launch freighter link to Coimbatore

New Delhi , April 25

SRILANKAN Cargo will start a twice-a-week freighter service between Colombo and Coimbatore from April 27.

Aircraft AN-12F will be used for the flight, which is to be operated on every Wednesday and Saturday, the airline has said in a statement.

The aircraft will have a capacity of 17 tonnes of cargo in pallets.

SriLankan Cargo already operates regular freighter services to Chennai, Bangalore and Thiruvananthapuram. In addition, SriLankan Airlines' operates 70 times a week to 10 different cities in the country.

The statement adds that the new flight will be the only freighter service operating to and from Coimbatore and is expected to provide a significant boost to the city's industrial progress.

Coimbatore airport also serves the nearby industrial and agricultural towns of Karur, Erode, Tirupur, Salem, Coonoor, and Ooty.
