Machilipatnam , April 25

THE State Government is going to spend Rs 100 crore on construction of additional classrooms, toilets and compound walls in all Government and municipal schools in the urban areas, according to the Chief Minister, Dr Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy.

He made the announcement at a public meeting here on Sunday.

The State Government would request the Union Government to grant funds for building storm-water drains in Machilipatnam and it would also give a matching grant for the project estimated to cost Rs 66 crore.

He said the Government would make all attempts to release water for the Krishna delta in June.

Necessary clearances for the Pulichintala project would be obtained in two months and the project would be completed in two years after that.

This balancing reservoir would be crucial for the stabilisation of the Krishna delta.

He announced sanction of Rs 50 lakh for the municipal open-air stadium.

Referring to the development of Machilipatnam port, Dr Reddy said the Government had taken up a feasibility study for the purpose. Depending on the report, all attempts would be made to take up the project with private participation.
