Two/Three Wheelers Corporate - Trends Bajaj Auto taking vendors to Dubai on 2-day trip Sudha Menon
Pune , April 21 LIFE is a picnic for the 200-strong vendor community of Bajaj Auto Ltd or at least it will be for a couple of days in end-April the entire lot takes off on an all-expense-paid trip to Dubai, courtesy Hamara Bajaj. The entire top brass of the company, including the Chairman, Mr Rahul Bajaj, the new Managing Director, Mr Rajiv Bajaj, and the Vice-Chairman and Executive Director, Mr Sanjiv Bajaj, are taking time off to bond with the suppliers. For the first time in its history, the company is taking its vendors on a two-day conference at an undisclosed location in Dubai on April 30 and May 1. "We have been taking our dealers out once in two years, but never got around to doing the same with our vendors, largely because they have been a large family of over 800 people, of different backgrounds, sizes and mentalities and thus, very unwieldy to manage," Mr Sanjiv Bajaj, Executive Director and in-charge, International Marketing and Finance, told Business Line. With the company on a comprehensive rationalisation exercise these last few years, the size of the vendor/supplier community has come down significantly from 850 three years ago to around 200 now, according to Mr Bajaj. "The dealers at the front end and the vendors at the back end are the key to how companies will keep ahead in the business in future," he added. The two-day conference will include the company sharing its vision for the future but more important, says Mr Bajaj, is that it will be a platform for suppliers to share their best practices."
