Promotions & Offers Variety - Tourism Malaysia to unveil offbeat packages for Indian tourists Ashwini Phadnis
New Delhi , April 21 TOURISM Malaysia is to unveil a host of niche products for the Indian market, including `Fly and Drive,' `Golf' and `Home-stay' packages. The packages, which are primarily aimed at the Free Individual Traveller, are to be unveiled by the middle of June. The Home-stay packages will give youth the opportunity of staying in Malaysian villages. This has already become popular in the Japanese market. Similarly, the `fly-and-drive' package lets a family rent a vehicle on arrival for criss-crossing the country. And don't worry about a driving licence - an Indian driving licence is valid during a short stay in Malaysia. "We are looking to see how we can educate the people on the various attractive places Malaysia has on offer. A visitor can spend time in a very old forest, go canoeing, play golf or do many other interesting things apart from seeing the world famous sites like Petronas Towers," the Director, Malaysia Tourism Promotion Board, Mr Manoharan, said. The board plans to hold a series of road-shows to promote the country and the tourist attractions it has on offer, officials said. Malaysia is already a favoured holiday destination among Indians. There was a surge of 20 per cent in Indians arriving in Malaysia during January-December last year. While 1,72,966 Indians visited Malaysia during 2004, officials estimate that the number of Indian tourist arrivals would be between 2,30,000-2,40,000 this year.
