THE Kochi-based Euro Tech Maritime Academy, which conducts various maritime courses, is moving to a new campus as part of its expansion programme.
The Rs 12-crore campus set up at Kakkanad will conduct eight new courses in addition to the 28 being conducted by the academy. The new campus will be inaugurated by the Chief Minister, Mr Oommen Chandy, on Saturday.
According to Mr Jenson Paul, Managing Director of the Academy, the courses offered by Euro Tech would help meet the shortage of staff in the global maritime sector.
The Academy is planning to start a simulation programme in navigation and engineering. Currently, this programme is available only in Chennai and Mumbai. The institution is holding talks with the Delhi-based Applied Research Institute for the commencement of this programme.
Euro Tech, which commenced the centre in 1991 in Kochi, has also entered into a tie-up with the Dubai-based Blue Bird Shipping for arranging placement for graduating candidates. As many as 10,000 candidates have so far passed out from the academy, he said.
