THE Chief Minister, Dr Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy, on Monday kicked off the State-wide mass contact programme `Prajapatham' (People's Path) at Himayatsagar in Ranga Reddy district.
He launched the programme by taking part in the de-silting of the dried up lake.
Addressing a public meeting later, the Chief Minister said the Government would modify the free power scheme next year in order to accommodate 50,000 more farmers into the scheme. He said his Government would provide livelihood options to the needy.
Referring to the shortage of drinking water, he said there was a shortage of 30 per cent in rainfall, leading to the acute shortage.
The Government was focussing on building irrigation projects. "We will complete the irrigation projects in the next five years," he said.
The mass contact programme was aimed at informing the people about various welfare activities initiated by the Government.
