SC Railway handles 14 pc more freight

THE South Central Railway (SCR) has recorded 14 per cent growth in freight loading during 2004-05 with 51 million tonnes (mt), higher by 6.22 mt than the pervious year.

This growth, SCR maintained, was about 3 mt more than the Railway Board's target.

The SCR recorded total revenues of Rs 4,149 crore for the year compared to Rs 3,702.47 crore in 2003-04.

Coal, which constitutes 43 per cent of the total originating freight loading on this zone, also registered a growth of 5.4 per cent during the year.

There was 13.7 per cent growth in cement and clinker loading which touched 15.3 mt.

During the year, 2.56 mt of iron ore was loaded.In a statement, SCR said that passenger traffic had gone up to 204.93 million during 2004-05, from the previous year's 195.36 million.
