Mr Jerry Rao, Chairman and CEO, MphasiS, and Mr Bhaskar Menon, President, MphasiS BPO, at a press conference in Mangalore on Friday.
Mangalore , April 8 MPHASIS opened its third BPO facility in the country at Mangalore on Friday. Mr Jerry Rao, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the company, addressing presspersons prior to the inauguration of the facility said, there was good scope for BPOs. "Indian economy is going to grow at 7-8 per cent. As domestic financial and telecom sectors are likely to grow at 30-40 per cent, there is a big opportunity for BPOs. We expect this segment to grow, as many banks and telecom companies are issuing outsourcing letters," he said. At present, three companies are being handled under the BPO circuit. He said the aim of starting a BPO facility in Mangalore was to diversify the company's risks. MphasiS has BPO facilities in Bangalore and Pune here, and in Mexico. With an initial investment of Rs 70 crore the Mangalore facility will provide contact centre services for `Fortune 500' companies, he added. Mr Bhaskar Menon, President of MphasiS BPO, said that the Mangalore centre will become a 3,000-seat facility in 16-18 months. The company plans to cater to 4-5 clients from the Mangalore centre in six months. To a query on the expected revenue from the Mangalore facility, he said 30 per cent of the total BPO revenue is likely to come from the Mangalore facility, once it has all 3,000 members in place. Mr Saket Drona, Head of Mangalore operations, said that the company has converted a 19th century cashew- and coffee- processing unit into a BPO facility on 6.7 acres of land. Only a portion of the facility is operational now, and the remaining will be operational by June, he added.
