Cement majors report rise in despatches

CEMENT majors have reported increase in despatches ranging from 5.44 per cent to around 10 per cent for the year ended March 31, 2005.
Associated Cement Companies said its despatches of 165.69 lakh tonnes are the highest ever achieved by the group.
Yearly despatches showed an increase of 7.9 per cent over the previous year (153.64 lakh tonnes ) while production at 166.06 lakh tonnes (153.53 lakh tonnes ), showed an increase of 8.5 per cent.
Despatches from the Aditya Birla group (from Grasim and UltraTech) rose 5.44 per cent to touch 262.60 lakh tonnes. Clinker despatches stood at 29.65 lakh tonnes. Production rose 5.61 per cent.
Grasim recorded cement despatches at 133.79 lakh tonnes, and clinker despatches at 2.96 lakh tonnes. For UltraTech, the figures were at 128.81 lakh tonnes and 26.69 lakh tonnes, respectively.
For the Ambuja Cement group, which observes a July-to-June fiscal, the cumulative despatches for the first three quarters of the fiscal rose 10 per cent, to 107.45 lakh tonnes (97.33 lakh tonnes ). Production for the same period was recorded at 107.56 lakh tonnes, showing a rise of 11 per cent.
Both ACC and Ambuja Cement said their despatches inMarch were the highest ever for their groups.
ACC reported despatches at 15.72 lakh tonnes, up by 6 per cent from the year-ago figure of 14.83 lakh tonnes; production rose 7.5 per cent, to 15.76 lakh tonnes (14.66 lakh tonnes).
Ambuja Cements reported despatches of 13.56 lakh tonnes, up by 9 per cent year-on-year and production of 13.58 lakh tonnes, up by 10 per cent.
