The Hindu Business Line : Saudi flights to Hyderabad

HYDERABAD: Saudi Arabian Airlines has become the seventh foreign airline to make Hyderabad its destination by launching direct flights from Jeddah and Riyadh beginning Tuesday.

The fifth destination in India for the Saudi carrier, Hyderabad would have bi-weekly services to the Gulf destinations. The other four destinations were Mumbai, Delhi, Chennai and Kochi. "With this, our flight frequency in India has gone up to 26 per week," Dr Khaled A. Ben-Bakr, Director-General of Saudi Arabian Airlines, said.

Addressing a press conference here on Monday to announce the launch, he said the company was making a study to identify more potential destinations in India.

Dr Khaled was in the city to take part in the airline's annual conference of marketing and sales for the Asian region. India stood second in Asia after Indonesia in contributing to company's sales. Last year, the airline carried 5.48 lakh passengers to and from India.

Asked about company's plans to increase frequency, he said the company was looking ahead to increase services. The other foreign airlines that operated services from Hyderabad were Emirates, Lufthansa, Malaysia Airlines, Qatar Airways, Silk Air and SriLankan Airlines.
