A sporting chance for Dream Job

Latha Venkatraman

LIVING A DREAM: Anand Narasimhan, who has won the Dream Job - Harsha Ki Khoj Contest on ESPN-Star Sports.

Mumbai , March 15

A CHANGE in one's career is always welcome, especially if it catapults you into the international world of sports presenting.

Twenty-seven-year-old Anand Narasimhan has dreamed about being a sports commentator all his life, and has now finally made it. His win in the Dream Job - Harsha Ki Khoj Contest on ESPN-Star Sports takes him to ESPN's Singapore office.

A media planner with Bangalore-based Group M, Narasimhan now joins the high-profile team of commentators and presenters on ESPN-Star Sports. He believes his knowledge of sports beyond cricket is quite fair. "I keenly follow football, basketball as well as hockey," says Narasimhan.

The entire process of participating in the contest itself was akin to training for the job, says Narasimhan. "We had to do a lot of editing, scripting and all of it done entirely by ourselves," he says. "As a presenter I will have to focus on all sports."

He is slated to move to ESPN's offices in Singapore in April for a one-year stint as a presenter on the channel.

Primarily, a presenter needs to have good command of English, because it is an international channel, and Hindi because of the local coverage of various sports. "It is good to know Hindi to speak to some of India's sportspersons and also to interview audiences," he says. Having spent some years in Delhi and having schooled at Central Board, Narasimhan is confident of his Hindi.

Narasimhan gets a chance to work with the channel for a year on the Sportsline and SportsCenter shows. "I hope I am able to extend my association with the channel beyond the one-year period," he says.
