Infy, Wipro allay fears after bomb scares

Bangalore , March 15

IT majors Infosys and Wipro said on Tuesday that they are in touch with their customers and employees to allay concerns about the bomb scares.

The Bangalore Police had received two anonymous calls in the early hours on Tuesday claiming that bombs had been planted in the Infosys and Wipro offices at Electronic City. The calls turned out to be a hoax. The police conducted a thorough search at both Infosys and Wipro campuses but no explosive device was traced.

"As soon as Infosys received intimation from the police, the campus was evacuated and the place was cordoned off for complete inspection. Normalcy was restored and the campus was fully functional within a very short time," said an Infosys statement. The disruption to routine service and loss of productive time was minimal.

Wipro sources said there was no evacuation, as very few people were working at its campus at that time. "We are in touch with all our employees and with those customers who are aware of these incidents to allay any concerns," a spokesperson said.

An Infosys spokesperson said that the company was also in touch with its customers. "As a natural reaction to this incident, we have sent mailers to all our customers, reassuring them that things are normal," the spokesperson added.

"Our disaster recovery and business continuity plans are on the highest alert and we have well-drilled procedures to optimise the response in case of an eventuality," Infosys said.

Infosys is also working with the Electronic City Association for sharing information between companies and for closer interaction with the police.

Last week, a similar anonymous call at a city office of Wipro had also turned out to be a hoax. The incident had, however, created panic, as it came close on the heels of the Delhi Police uncovering a plot by Laskhar-e-Toiba militants to target software companies in Bangalore.
