Testing of pipelines for Tirupur industrial water project begins

G. Gurumurthy

Coimbatore , March 8

THE countdown for private initiative to supply water to Tirupur textile processing industries has begun with the trial running of water for testing the pipelines by the two engineering contractors companies, engaged for the Rs 1,023-crore project, starting today.

The BOOT (build-own-operation-transfer) project has started pumping the water from water head-works at the Bhavani-Cauvery confluence into the hosiery town through the 55-km long main pipeline that conveys water to Tirupur.

According to sources in the New Tirupur Area Development Corporation (NTADC), the special purpose vehicle company set up to implement the project, the water pumped into main pipeline in three stages since Monday had reached the main balancing reservoir (MBR) located at Sirupooluvapatti village on the outskirts of Tirupur.

The testing of the main pipeline between Bhavani and Tirupur is being done by the Hindustan Construction Corporation Ltd, the engineering procurement contractor (EPC)-I responsible for laying the pipeline in this sector.

The pumping and testing of network pipelines from MBR to 26 other distribution tanks situated in different parts outside Tirupur would be gone through from tomorrow by the Larsen and Toubro which is the EPC contractor-II for the pipeline networks, the sources added.

The testing of pipelines and synchronisation would be carried out for the next one month before the entire pipeline/storage systems are declared fit for commercial launch.
