Railway Ministry officials, PMO discuss budget

THE Railway Ministry officials led by the Railway Board Chairman, Mr R.K. Singh, met senior officials of the Prime Minister's Office, Finance Ministry, Planning Commission to give a final shape to the Railway Budget 2005-06 to be presented in Parliament on February 26.

The Prime Minister's Principal Secretary, Mr T.K.A. Nair, chaired the meeting.

The Union Railways Minister, Mr Lalu Prasad, will be here on February 24 and is likely to meet the Prime Minister.

The meeting discussed the possibility of inclusion of viable railways projects in the Budget, said Railway Ministry sources.

The projects included a high-speed corridor between Mumbai and Ahmedabad, improving port connectivity and strengthening the Golden Quadrilateral and its diagonal for its proper reflection in the current fiscal.
