Stir on IT highway

Shaju John

Residents of Kannaki Nagar near Mettukupam in Chennai blocked the `IT highway' (Old Mahabalipuram Road) on Tuesday protesting the lack of basic amenities. They said that about 20,000 families staying there are not getting drinking water and are unable to reach their work spots because of slack bus services. Vehicles carrying IT professionals were stuck on the road for more than four hours. The police resorted to lathi-charge to disperse the crowd.
