Airlines Logistics - Airlines Jet, Air Sahara may be allowed to fly to Singapore, Malaysia Our Bureau
New Delhi , Feb. 7 THE two private sector airlines Jet Airways and Air Sahara are likely to be allowed to operate a daily service on the Chennai-Kuala Lumpur sector shortly. Besides, both the airlines are also likely to be allowed to operate a daily flight between India and Singapore. Official sources said on Monday that the Government would soon allow not only the two airlines to start operating to Singapore and Malaysia but also permit Air India and Indian Airlines to operate more flights to these two countries. While Air Sahara is likely to operate on the Delhi-Singapore sector, Jet Airways is likely to get the Mumbai-Singapore sector. A Government announcement is expected in the next couple of days, the sources said, adding that AI and Indian Airlines are likely to be given all that they have asked for. While AI has sought 603 additional seats between India and Singapore during summer, IA has sought 435 additional seats. Similarly, IA has sought 2,030 additional seats on the India-Malaysia route while AI has sought 1,206 more seats. However, the Government is unlikely to take a decision just yet on more flights to Thailand. Sources indicated that there were not enough seats left after accepting the requests of AI and IA for operating to Thailand. The four airlines are expected to begin services to the new destinations between March and October this year. The Government's decision to allow the private sector airlines to the Far East comes close on the heels of Jet Airways and Air Sahara being allowed to operate nine flights a week on the India-UK sector. While Jet Airways has been allowed to operate a daily service on the sector, Air Sahara has been allowed to operate twice-a-week flight.
